Waterfalls & Daffodils

-Happy Monday to All-
Even though there are snowflakes  passing by I could not help but take advantage of the daffodils this morning! Even Ian had to get in the picture!
I completed an order of bookmarks for Eve & Roarke this morning and will be shipping them out to
The ideas are brewing for the new jewelry for the new novel debuting in April,
"The Witness" by Nora Roberts!
Last week I mentioned that my new porcelain dolls name was "Flo" and I would post a couple of photos to show how the hairdo is shaped like a waterfall. So here you go.
The plaid that was used for Flo's dress was very similar to plaids used during the Civil War era. Drawstring drawers trimmed in a lace or ribbon and ending just below the knee were the norm. They even had a split crotch to make nature's necessities a bit easier! Some things are better left untold - LOL.
Have a great week everyone!

NEW ! NEW ! NEW !

Happy Monday Everyone! NEW items have been listed on my website "The Cotton Thistle" AND on Etsy. I have some really great jewelry pieces on there - especially for your summer attire! So . . . . . . . . . .stop by - check 'em out and don't forget to like me on Facebook and you can "PIN" The Cotton Thistle now on Pinterest!
Here's a sample of a couple of the new items :
Dragonfly Necklace
Rhinestone Elelgance Earrings - Sterling Silver & Silvertone
Warm Wave Necklace

Back on February 6th, I began my adventure in making my own paper mache' bust for my jewelry and here's the "almost" completed item.  I still have to finish the edges and spray it with sealer and add a few extras . . . . . .
Oh, and the necklace is also a work in progress for. . . . . hmmmmmm - can't say right now!
Before:                                                    After (so far):
This weekend I was also able to pick up my finished "Flo" porcelain doll that hubby gave me for Christmas.  My sister made the dress and the necklace for Flo.
Susan (a friend of my sisters) made Flo. She does a wonderful job on the porcelain dolls and
hand-paints all of the features on the dolls!
Incredible!
Flo's name comes from the "waterfall hairdo" she sports :)
I'll have a better picture of that next time and some more history about Flo and her clothing.

I also received two more dolls - one is
"Lil Bo Peep"! Love her!!!
She even has a ewe that wasn't lost!!!
Until next time - have a great week everyone!

Ideas, Reading & Paper Mache'

Hello Everyone!
Hope everyone survived the Superbowl weekend festivities and the big game. I'm a Patriots fan myself but all in all - even though they didn't win - it was a great game down to the last 5 seconds! So congrats to the Giants and all of their fans out there!
After taking a much needed 2 week break from blogging I completed 212 pieces of jewelry for probably the biggest order ever! Still have a few pieces to catch up on, but the majority of what was needed has completed, tagged, bagged and delivered!
Now it's "reading catch-up time" along with creating the new designs that are in the works and waiting for an order of supplies once again for the new stuff. Will post pics next week on the blog and on Facebook.
I was surfing the net this weekend looking for a jewelry bust with a specific design where the shoulder on one side was longer than the other side. There are some amazing ones out there but nothing was grabbing my interest. They are either designed in natural, black, or white - boring. Well, since I need a bust to accommodate gold, silver and black I decided to try my hand at making my own! It's a work in progress and the first portion is still drying. This will either be a disaster or a triumph!
I grabbed "MissPriss" (my dress mannequin), covered her in plastic wrap, mixed up the paper mache' and went to work. After the first portion dries I will begin the "longer shoulder" part. The plan is by the end of the week it should be completed.
Keep you fingers crossed!
Enjoy your week and make sure you mark on your calenders for the book signing on Saturday, February 18th at Turn the Page Bookstore/Cafe in Boonsboro, Md. featuring Nora Roberts and more! Great times!  Check it out!

Blogging or NOT . . . . .

Well, I must admit, I skipped my Monday of blogging this week. That’s what happens when you’re busy. I have read a couple of blogs this week where the bloggers are feeling a little uncomfortable about blogging. They just don’t have time. I know the feeling – I sympathize with all of you! However, why not try blogging once a week instead of everyday and if there is something that needs to be blogged that very day – do it! – or just hold off and add to a file in your computer or journal of specific ideas you would like to hit on in your blog in that “once a week blog”. If you don’t make it for that once a week blog then don’t sweat it – ITS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD OF BLOGGERS!
In two days I completed 46 pieces of jewelry.  Now you ask, “how did she do that”?   I was off 1 day from my regular job, I didn’t cook for those 2 jewelry days (I had made 4 days worth of meals the day before my 2 day jewelry bonanza), I didn’t answer the telephone and returned calls in the evening, and I didn’t blog! Guess what – everyone survived – even ME and I was HAPPY!  Sometimes you just have to put the things you feel are most important at the time first and say STOP to everything else and guess what?  It all worked out and I am doing it again next week! WOOOOHOOOOO!!!
Yes, my hands were killing me after those 2 days, but I went home from work on the third day and worked on more jewelry. I took the next day off and today they still hurt, but I will survive. Tonight I will go home and create my jewelry.
It’s just something I enjoy J
I took my TV time this week with no regrets or guilt.
Monday was “Once Upon a Time” time. Fabulous show!  Now, who’s the biker guy??? I have my thoughts.
Tuesday was my “Betty White” time. Happy Birthday Betty! I love that lady and hope I grow up just like her LOL.  Her new show, “Off Their Rockers”, is great.  Watch out younger generation – Betty has zeroed in on you!
Last night I relaxed and watched “American Idol”.  I swore I would never be sucked into shows like that. Boy, was I wrong.  I mostly watch it for Steven Tyler, the man is hilarious. However, on the grown-up side, he can sure stick that foot of his in his mouth at times!  I was sure a certain former baseball player was going to kick his butt after the comment Tyler made about the baseball player’s daughter.  I think the segment of that show was altered, cut and clipped and then put back together. Gotta love ‘em. LOL
So tonight its back to jewelry and whatever else comes my way.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Last day . . . . .

Happy Monday Everyone!Today is the last day of my 10 day off period from my everyday office job! UUUUUGGGGGHHHHH! Where did the time fly? I have not accomplished nearly the amount of things I wanted to, but had a good time off anyway. I guess sometimes its better to just enjoy the moments and stop stressing about the little things in life because those little things turn out to be the things that will hold up your progress. I think that has happened more than once in the last 10 days!
Well, time to just keep trudgin along and complete the goals. I had a good 4 day run of organizing the computer files and then . . . . .
I had a good 3 days of just plain ole "no artistic juices flowing days"!  On the fourth day I started to panic. I was just trying to think about it toooooooooooooo much! So, I decided to just go along with it and take the Christmas decorations down, celebrate another birthday and see what happened next. And I got . . . . . . . . . . NOTHING!
I went to see my sister and visited some sheep (I love sheep) and read. And still I got . . . . . . . . . .  NOTHING - NOTTA - ZIP!
Then, it hit me - maybe I just needed some down time. I hate down time! I feel like its wasted time, but I have come to the conclusion that ours bodies and minds speak to us and we actually need to listen to them sometimes. So I am listening. Now that I have taken my down time, I am on a mission.
NEW YEAR - NEW MONTH - NEW DAY!!!!
Today, I am hitting the floor with both feet and away I go . . . .

Resolutions!

New Year’s resolutions! WOW! Talk about pressure! NOT!!!!Sorry, I do not make them . . . . . . . . ever. I will go through the year and as things come up, I will take care of them.  Like, watching my weight, I went on Weight Watchers in October! Bad, bad, bad mistake, because there’s Halloween, then Thanksgiving, then the Doll Club luncheon at my sisters - OMG, then Christmas, then New Year’s and then my birthday (have got to go to Georgetown Cupcake for that one)! So, of course, I blew it, I’ll admit it, but come January 9th, I will be back on track. I know what you’re thinking. WHOA! What about Valentine’s Day – no biggy – not a big chocolate person here. So, I’ll be good to go.
I planned way back in October to take the first week of January off from my daily office job. I did this in order to be able to re-vamp my website, The Cotton Thistle, plan for new jewelry, do some house-cleaning for The Inspiring Women Jewelry Collection and start up Cottage Attic Crafts, my new crafts website.  I also need to organize my blogging time and Facebook pages and re-vamp my Etsy store AND organize my computer files.Well, I can happily say that over the past 4 days, the computer has been organized, inventory sheets have been delivered to consignees, reminder’s are ready to be sent out, my blogs are scheduled for blogging each and every Monday, Facebook pages are getting a cleaning and Twitter is getting some well deserved tweeting! At this point the fun begins – CREATIVITY!!!!!! I LOVE IT!
This morning, I will begin the housecleaning of The Inspiring Women Jewelry Collection. New ideas, new displays in the making (if I can ever find a suitable display cabinet!!!), a new look, the excitement to read the new novels about the “inspiring women” and then replenishing the inventory! How exciting!
Replenishing jewelry, new jewelry for The Cotton Thistle, new crafts for Cottage Attic Crafts and planning new consignees to visit! My week is cut out for me and hopefully it’s a sign of good things to come!Oh, and did I mention hubs is readying the house for a move – well, we’ll have to wait and see where we are January 1, 2013 – lol. I am not even going there right now!
So now I’m off to create!   J
Happy New Year!
